About ADLETT Awards and Scholarship
Founder & CEO Juliet-Jenebu Obajobi (BA, MA, MSC)
ADLETT Awards and Scholarship is a non-governmental organization committed to making education accessible and attainable for young women from underprivileged backgrounds, particularly in Nigeria. Our mission is to empower the next generation of female leaders by removing the financial barriers that prevent many from pursuing higher education. ADLETT was founded on the belief that education is not just a fundamental right; it is a powerful tool for transformative impact. Our primary focus is to support undergraduate students, offering scholarships and stipends to girls aged 15 to 25 who demonstrate academic potential but lack the resources to advance their education.
The inspiration behind ADLETT is rooted in both personal experience and academic research. While pursuing a master’s degree some years ago, I explored the systemic causes of low female participation in Nigerian politics. Contrary to prevailing assumptions, I identified illiteracy and lack of educational opportunities, particularly in Northern Nigeria, as key barriers to women’s civic and political engagement. This insight was further enhanced by an unforgettable moment a teacher once reached out to me, asking if I could help a bright student register for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This student had the talent, the drive, but not the means. I stepped in, and the said student earned distinctions in every subject. That moment stayed with me. It reminded me how many brilliant minds are waiting for just one chance. ADLETT is that chance! It is a promise to the young girl who dreams of becoming a president, senator, doctor, a teacher, a mentor etc; but lacks the resources to take the first step. These experiences planted the seeds for what would become ADLETT.
At ADLETT, we believe that every girl deserves a chance to dream, to learn, and to lead. Through our scholarship initiatives, we aim to not only change individual lives, but also to contribute to a more educated, empowered, and equitable society. Together, we are building more than futures, we are building a generation of educated girls who will grow into empowered women.
